Overview

One way to make recording your video a lot easier is to use one of the many teleprompting apps available.

You type or copy your script into the teleprompting app and press start. Your script then scrolls on the screen at the speed you choose so you can read it while recording. This lets you focus on staying calm and natural, and means you can record your video in one take…!

There are lots of teleprompters available on the App Store and Google Play. Here is a link to a blog article discussing some of the teleprompting apps for Android and IOS.

There are typically free and premium versions of apps available, all offering different features. The free ones usually offer upgrade options to remove watermarks or allow longer recordings.

The one we use a lot can be found by searching for ‘Video Teleprompter 3’. It has all the must-have features and doesn’t include watermarks.

Typical features on offer

Here is a list of the must-have and useful features:

Must-have (in our view)

  • Speed control, a must-have feature allowing you to speak at a comfortable pace

  • Font size, so you can hold your phone further away while reading

  • Import scripts from your phone (if this feature isn’t available then you can always read it using the voice-to-text feature on your phone, or copy and paste in the text from your notes or even an email)

  • Switch between landscape and portrait

Useful but not essential

  • Voice tracking - where the text automatically scrolls at the speed you are speaking

  • Automatic subtitling - useful for sharing videos on social media

  • Add background music

  • Audio boosting

  • Cloud storage - helpful but C-Me also stores all your videos for you

  • Green-screening - letting you add different backgrounds

  • Pause feature

A few helpful tips…

When recording, make sure you are not too close to the phone because otherwise your eyes will have to move too much to read the script and this will show on the video. We recommend being arm’s length away. You can zoom the camera in if you want to fill the screen more.

We recommend recording in landscape mode as this means your video job posts will look great on desktops and mobile devices.

One easy way to load your script is to use read it using the voice-to-text tool on your device.

Be aware of some free teleprompter apps adding a watermark to your video recording, which you might not want.
